SNETHEMBA COMMUNITY PROGRAMME
The SINETHEMBA Children’s Home, established in 2018, is a well-managed institution with a long history of exemplary service to the children .
The SINETHEMBA Children’s Home is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 080-036) which provides a safe refuge for up to 64 children of all races who have been found in need of care.
We care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children found to be disadvantaged through physical, sexual or emotional abuse, severe neglect or abandonment, some are affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. At SCH they start a new life, living communally in cottages, under the loving eyes of our trained care workers.
About Us
Our Vision
-
To provide a safe, caring and loving environment for children aged 0-18 years (regardless of HIV status or disability), who are vulnerable, orphaned or abandoned.
-
To strive to place our children back into their family home; where this is not possible we would hope for adoption. If neither of the above are possible the child would be welcome to remain at SCH.
-
To strive to get sponsorship for each child and staff member; to sponsor the child’s care and education and the staffs wages.
-
To implement a community-involved effort to care for orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable babies and young children.
-
To use local resources and seek to become self-reliant in energy and food.
-
To strive to relocate children into their family units.
-
To provide training in the care of infants for mothers and carers.
-
To acquire adequate buildings, grounds, vehicles, farm land, fences and playgrounds.
-
To hire and adequately pay trained staff who care for their assigned children.
-
To hire office staff who keep records and documents on each child.
-
To use make available nurses and medical volunteers.
Our Mission
The SCH mission is to improve the lives of the community. Providing a safe place for vulnerable babies and young children is one of our main aims. At SCH we believe that, where possible, children should be in a family, ideally their own. Therefore, assisting families in adequately caring for their children is a huge part of our mission.

Volunteer With Us
01 - 31 July 2023 - Mandela Month
Volunteering at an orphanage is a rewarding but also challenging thing to do during your travels abroad. There are many children in South Africa who have been abandoned by their families for financial, social or personal reasons and live in a children's home. This is your chance to support the community.
As the well-being and the protection of the children are the main concerns at all times, volunteers are chosen very carefully and must be trained in working with children. A commitment of at least four weeks is mandatory for all orphanage volunteers. You will assist the main caretakers and help to provide a better future for the children.
